Los Amigos School
Parent Partnership Plan
A true partnership with each of out parents is a key component in the success of each of the programs at Los Amigos School.
The Parent Partnership Plan at Los Amigos School includes:
Parent communication
Parent involvement
Parent inclusion in decision making
Parent education
Parents are the child's first and most important teacher.
Parents' involvement with the child's education is one of the most important variables in determining a child's success in school. The home best understands the child and the child's needs.
Communication
We must make it a priority to keep the parents informed about what is happening at school, what is happening with their child, and how the parent can help with both.
Communication from the home will help the school understand how to best meet the needs of the individual child.
We must assist in making communication two way.
A rule of thumb is...If it were your child, what would you want to know? When would you want to know it? How would you want to be informed? Then be very sensitive about providing that same opportunity for the child's parents.
Parent communication is a key element in and outstanding education program.
Parent communication will prevent problems!
All Los Amigos teachers develop a parent communication/involvement plan.
Every teacher publishes a class newsletter at least monthly.
A PTA newsletter with school information is printed by the PTA.
The Dragons' Tale is published at least quarterly.
All teachers include positive calls home as a part of their communication plan.
Parent notification is required as the third step in the discipline plan in each classroom for student misbehavior.
Parent notification is required at least 24 hours in advance of any student being kept after school for detention.
Parent notification is a required intervention for all students experiencing any problems.
Parent notification is a required intervention before a referral to the Student Study Team except where safety may be an issue.

Parent-Student-Teacher conferences are conducted twice a year to discuss student progress. Standardized test scores are discussed and goals for improvement are agreed upon and a contract is signed.
Report cards and progress reports are formal reporting tools.
Caught Being good slips are given as a positive reinforcement to students. One copy is put in the drawing box. The second copy reporting the responsible behavior for which the student is being praised is sent home to parents.
Dragon postcards are used to notify parents of students with "out of the ordinary good behavior."
Behavior contracts are developed and used on an individual basis to keep parent informed of students progress or behavior. These may include daily or weekly reports home to parents.
All teachers have a telephone in their classroom with an outside line so parents may be called immediately if necessary.
Notices are routinely sent home about school events or information.
