CA Assessment of Student Performance & Progress System (CAASPP)

California’s new academic standards are based on what we want students to know and be able to do. They are designed so students graduate ready for college and a career. These tests were created specifically to gauge each student’s performance in mathematics and English language arts/literacy as he or she develops—grade by grade—the skills called for by the standards, including the ability to write clearly, think critically, and solve problems.

The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System consists of the following assessments:

  • Smarter Balanced English language arts/literacy and mathematics
  • California Alternate Assessments for English language arts, mathematics, and science
  • California Science Tests
  • Standards-based Tests in Spanish
