Elsie Millet Retires After 53 Years of Dedicated Service

IMG_1469.JPG

Cucamonga School District board members, district staff, friends, and family gathered at the Cucamonga School District Office on December 4, 2014 to celebrate the service, leadership and friendship of Elsie Millet.

Mrs. Millet has served the students, staff and the community of Cucamonga School District for the past 53 years.  She was first employed by the district on November 1, 1961 as a part-time typist and receptionist.  During the 1970s she served as the school secretary at Los Amigos during the time it was a Jr. High School.  In the 1980s Mrs. Millet was the secretary at Guasti Kindergarten School, and during the 1990s Mrs. Millet was the secretary at Bernt Kindergarten School, until August 31, 1993 when she retired for the first time from the district.  Just a few months later, in November 1993, Mrs. Millet was elected to serve on the Cucamonga School District Board of Trustees and has served as a trustee ever since.

In addition to her employment with the district and her service as a Board member, Mrs. Millet was involved in California School Employees Association and held the position of vice president of the association, she was a room mother on numerous occasions, volunteered many hours in classrooms, participated on the PTA and served two terms as president of the PTA.

It has always been very important to Mrs. Millet to serve her community.  Many years ago, she assisted once a month at the well-baby clinic, she was also very involved in the YMCA and Little League when her sons were young, and through her sewing club, she sewed, washed and ironed clothes for needy children living in our community.

Still to this day Mrs. Millet is involved in our community.  On numerous occasions, Mrs. Millet represents the district by attending community events, and at the county level, serving on the County Committee and SANDABS, and at the state level, she is very involved in the California School Boards Association.  Her dedication to community service was recognized when she received a “Woman of Distinction” award in 2012 from Mike Morrell’s office for her service in the school district and the greater community.

In each of these different roles, Mrs. Millet has contributed greatly to the success of Cucamonga School District.  She has honored the community of Cucamonga by her selflessness, her devotion, and her care and concern.  She has a deep, personal commitment to public education and has worked tirelessly for the best possible education for the children of the school district.
