Dear CSD Families,
In light of the recent incident that led to a temporary lockdown at one of our elementary schools, I want to acknowledge the understandable concern it caused. I also want to sincerely thank you for your patience, trust, and support as we navigated the situation together.
While it was thankfully determined that there was no active threat to our students or surrounding community, I want to emphasize that we take every potential safety concern seriously. When a report is made that could impact our school community, we respond immediately, following established safety protocols with precision, urgency, and care.
In this case, the school acted swiftly by initiating a lockdown, contacting law enforcement, and working closely with the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department. Thanks to the professionalism of our staff and the responsiveness of local law enforcement, the situation was resolved thoroughly and safely.
That said, we are always committed to learning and improving. We are reviewing our response to identify areas where we can strengthen our practices. An emergency systems check was completed at the site, and a lockdown drill was conducted on Wednesday to reinforce our protocols. In the coming days, we will be rechecking emergency systems at all school sites to ensure everything is functioning properly and that we remain fully prepared.
We also recognize that incidents like this can be emotionally challenging for students. Counselors were available on campus, and we encourage families to reach out if their child needs additional support. Student well-being is just as important to us as academic success.
Lastly, I want to reassure you that the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. We will continue to conduct regular drills, strengthen our safety procedures, and maintain strong partnerships with local law enforcement to ensure we are prepared for any situation.
On a different note, at our last board meeting on September 11, 2025, the board approved a resolution to observe Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. This is a time to celebrate the rich culture, history, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities, and to honor the diversity and strength that make our school community so special. Thank you for your continued support.
Take Care,
Michael Chaix, Ed.D. Superintendent
