Cucamonga Elementary School By Principal Dr. Jenna Tremayne
As we reach the halfway point of the school year, we want to take a moment to celebrate the hard work, growth, resiliency, and grit our Cubs have shown so far. We recently completed our i-Ready Reading and Math diagnostic assessments, and we are proud to share that our students are making significant measurable progress!
Beginning of Year to Middle of Year Growth In Reading, we saw the greatest progress in high frequency words (also known as our “red words”) while we will continue to focus on Reading comprehension in the months ahead.
- The percentage of students scoring AT OR ABOVE grade level in reading has increased by 12%! Additionally, the percentage of students scoring 2 or more grade levels behind has decreased by 13%.
In Math, students showed strong gains in measurement and data with targeted support continuing in geometry.
- The percentage of students scoring AT OR ABOVE grade level in reading has increased by 9%! Our greatest progress can be found in the percentage of students scoring 2 or more grade levels behind has decreased by 22%.
i-Ready Growth Celebration At the start of the school year, we specifically select math to be our main priority for growth. So, in addition to increasing math instructional minutes, introducing new math centers, we created “WIN” (What I Need) trimester goals to focus on mathematical areas of need. Our students showed significant growth in meeting their WIN goals and iReady goals. To honor the hard work of our students, we are hosting an i-Ready Success Party next week. We’ll also be celebrating two classrooms and grade levels with the highest average growth in Math with a donut party next week. These celebrations are meant to encourage continued effort, goal-setting, and the understanding that growth comes from perseverance. The two classes with the MOST math progress are:
- Miss Garcia-Cortez’s 4th Grade Class with an increase in 23% of students scoring at or above grade level!
- Mrs. Hansberger-Christy’s 5th Grade Class with an increase in 17% of students scoring at or above grade level and a 39% decrease in students scoring two or more years below grade level!
Keep the Momentum Going at Home Here’s how you can support your child’s success at home:
- Encourage regular i-Ready practice – Students can log in at home to complete teacher-assigned lessons and skill-boosting activities. Just 15–20 minutes, a few times a week, can make a big difference!
- Complete the Winter Break i-Ready Challenge- Students are encouraged to pass 10 iReady Math lessons over break to earn a certificate and a milkshake. Students who pass the most math lessons will also earn an EXTRA surprise.
- Read together daily – Reading aloud, having your child read to you, or simply discussing books builds comprehension, vocabulary, and confidence.
Thank you for continuing to partner with us by encouraging effort, celebrating growth, and supporting learning at home. Go Cubs!
